The recent storm left some heartbreaking images and caused damage across several European countries, with tragic losses reported, including a fatality in Spain.

Yet there is a silver lining. The heavy rainfall associated with the storm has helped improve the water reserves on the peninsula, increasing their stored volume for the third week in a row.

As of November 7, the reservoirs held 41.7 percent of their capacity. This marks a rise of 3.8 percentage points from the prior week and a 9.5 point increase when compared with data for the same period in the previous year.

This improvement, noted by Antena 3 meteorologist Roberto Brasero, highlights how crucial reservoir levels are for energy and water management. Brasero also warned that despite the recent gains, the overall level remains relatively low and far from typical highs.

When examining the ten year average, the current capacity stands at 41.7 percent, which is nearly seven points below the long term mean of 48.4 percent.

SUDIDO N of reservoirs this week:

✅ Today up 3.8 percent; ✅ last week up 2.3 percent; ✅ previous week up 1 percent.

These figures show the temperatures and rainfall translated into reservoir gains, but water storage remains limited. The interval from October 17 to November 7 reflects a steady but modest recovery, with the latest data showing 41.7 percent of capacity on November 7.

Good news for electrical energy

The latest weekly report from the Hydrological Bulletin, published by the Ministry of Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenges, indicates that the nation’s dams are positioned to support electricity production. Reservoirs dedicated to power generation have gained 7.2 percentage points from the previous week, reaching 65.1 percent capacity. This figure surpasses last year’s level of 42.3 percent and sits above the decade average of 57.4 percent.
