Rescue in Kazan: Police and National Guard Save Two Children

In Kazan, a police officer and two officers from the Russian National Guard came to the aid of two children who had fallen into a pond. This account comes from Ministry of Internal Affairs Media.

The event occurred in the Sovetsky district, in the capital of the republic. According to senior police sergeant Ilnar Faizullin, a woman hurried to duty station 13 to report that two youngsters had slipped beneath the pond’s icy surface in Chishmyale Park. The police officer and the two National Guard members who were at the station hurried to the scene to help.

There they found two small children, a girl and a boy, knee-deep in water, clinging to the ice and fighting to stay afloat. Faizullin and the guardsmen attempted to reach the youngsters on the crumbling ice, but the ice proved unstable and the rescuers slipped into the frigid water themselves.

One National Guard officer managed to seize the girl and pass her to a fellow responder, who carried her to shore and handed her to another member of the team. The officers then pulled the boy from the water, but he was not breathing. The senior sergeant immediately initiated resuscitation, and after a tense moment the boy began to show signs of life. Both children were eventually handed over to ambulance personnel for further care.

Remarkably, the quick actions of the police and National Guard personnel averted a tragedy in that moment, highlighting the importance of swift, coordinated emergency response in urban parks where hazards can appear suddenly.

The incident underscores the ongoing commitment of law enforcement and emergency services to public safety, especially in cold weather months when ice conditions can be unpredictable and dangerous for pedestrians and children who may wander near water bodies in public spaces.
