Rescue Efforts Continue for Missing Tourist near Mount Belukha

Rescuers in the Altai Republic have intensified a search operation after a tourist from St. Petersburg disappeared near the foot of Mount Belukha. The incident was reported by TASS, citing the regional press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergencies of Russia.

The incident occurred in the Ust-Koksinsky District, at the confluence of the Akkem and Yarlu rivers. The woman reportedly fell while crossing the water and was swept away by the current. Eyewitnesses were unable to assist as she disappeared from view in the swift river.

Initial information indicated that the tourist group accompanying the Petersburger traveler was unregistered. The members of the group attempted to locate him on their own, but the search produced no results.

In parallel, instructors from the Vysotnik tourist center conducted a shoreline sweep spanning seven kilometers from the drop point to the Tekelu waterfall, yet did not uncover any signs of a fall or traces of the missing person.

At present, rescue teams are inspecting the Akkem River bed with a Mi-8 helicopter. The river runs about 10 kilometers in length, and no clues about the missing traveler have been found so far. A follow-up reconnaissance flight is scheduled for June 17 at 08:00 local time (04:00 Moscow time).

Earlier reports noted that two schoolboys who disappeared in the woods were found alive after a month, underscoring the unpredictable nature of wilderness emergencies and the perseverance of search efforts.
