Renfe will open, this Monday, registration on its website and mobile app to enable users to claim free season tickets for Cercanías, Rodalies, and Media Distancia, as well as 50% off season tickets at Avant. This initiative is designed to allow eligible customers to sign up in advance so they can purchase subscriptions online and pay the bonds starting August 24, during the measure’s validity from September 1 through December 31.

Officials from Renfe note that, from Monday onward, the company’s site will include a dedicated information area. This section will guide applicants through the steps to claim and use the recurring subscriptions, ensuring a smooth online process. The government’s approach mirrors this, with Cercanías and Rodalies systems requiring a 10-euro deposit per population center to obtain each subscription.

During the four-month window in which these subscriptions are free, any user who completes more than 16 trips with the subscription—that is, at least four trips per month—will receive a deposit refund using the same payment method used for the original purchase. The process in the Media Distancia segment follows the same logic, with a 20-euro deposit; refunds will also be issued after more than 16 trips, and the pass can be used on a single route.

Additionally, new subscriptions will be created for high-speed commercial services, with terms aligned to Avant services to help rebalance travel conditions for frequent travelers on a regional basis. On these high-speed lines, subsidized rates will amount to 50% discounts for subscriptions offered on routes that do not carry a public service obligation and where the travel time does not exceed 100 minutes.

Specific corridors slated to receive these new cross-border or cross-regional options include Madrid-Palencia, Madrid-Zamora, León-Valladolid, Burgos-Madrid, León-Palencia, Burgos-Valladolid, Ourense-Zamora, Palencia-Valladolid, Huesca-Zaragoza, León-Segovia, Segovia-Zamora, Palencia-Segovia, and Medina del Campo-Zamora. These routes are part of a broader government package aimed at energy savings and efficiency, including measures such as setting temperature limits in public buildings.

The Ministry of Finance clarified that 210 million euros will be transferred to Renfe to finance these measures. This support underscores the government’s commitment to making rail travel more affordable for regular users while promoting energy-conscious transportation choices across the network. The overall program seeks to maintain service quality and punctuality, ensure broader accessibility, and encourage greater use of rail for daily commutes and longer trips alike, reflecting a coordinated effort between Renfe and public authorities to sustain affordable travel options through the end of the year.
