Renfe launches a new Madrid to Murcia high speed service with affordable fares
By last Thursday Renfe reported that it had sold more than 10,800 tickets for the newly announced route. The railway operator confirmed that sales began on November 27 as part of the rollout for Avlo, the low cost high speed brand serving Madrid Chamartín and Murcia. This marks the first low cost high speed connection on this segment and signals a strategic expansion of affordable rail travel across central Spain.
The Madrid to Murcia line kick started this Sunday with two daily trips in each direction, delivering a weekly total of 5,000 seats. The schedule is designed to maximize convenience for both business travelers and tourism traffic, offering reliable capacity while maintaining competitive prices.
Stops along the route include Orihuela Miguel Hernández, Elche AV, Alicante, Villena AV, Albacete Los Llanos, and Cuenca Fernando Zóbel. Morning departures from Murcia are scheduled for 10:32 each day, while the return from Madrid Chamartín departs at 6:15 in the morning. Initial fares begin at seven euros, presenting an attractive option for travelers seeking economical high speed connectivity.
With this new timetable the number of high speed trains operating between Murcia and Madrid will be increased to ten daily services, five in each direction, rising from the previous level of four per direction. This expansion aims to improve frequency, reduce wait times, and encourage more people to choose rail for longer journeys, aligning with broader regional transport goals.
