There are currently no plans to merge the Unified State Examinations (USE) with the Main State Examinations (OSE) in history and social studies, according to officials cited by Rosobrnadzor via TASS.
At present, the authorities state that the possibility of combining the OGE and the Unified State Exam in history and social studies is not being considered. Any potential changes to the Unified State Examination procedures and content would first require updates to the federal-state educational standards (FSES).
Rosobrnadzor explains that history and social studies remain two distinct academic subjects, each governed by its own set of federal-state educational standards and requirements.
On March 14, Vladimir Medinsky, the Vice President of the Russian Federation and President of the Russian Military Historical Society, proposed the idea of a combined state exam in history and social studies. He noted that many colleagues advocate removing social studies as a separate course, labeling it harmful, and suggested incorporating social studies questions into the Unified State Exam in History.
Earlier comments from Medinsky touched on the possibility of aligning exam formats with broader educational goals and ensuring that assessment content reflects core historical competencies and civic understanding.
