The Alicante Province Labor Union, known as Uepal, celebrated its fifth round of awards by honoring 250 businessmen and members of the Alicante community. The ceremony was marked by emotion as tributes were paid to local business associations and a range of institutions and individuals who contribute to the region’s vitality.
Among the award recipients was the Alicante Province Real Estate Developers Association, Provia. Provia received the Provincial Economy Support Award for its longstanding efforts to defend and promote the interests of its partners since 1981. The award was accepted by Provia’s president, Pedro Javier Soliveres, who accepted it from the Chamber of Commerce president Carlos Baño and Uepal vice presidents Sergio Gómez and Juan José Hernández.
Provia’s Statement on Local Economic Growth
In his remarks after receiving the recognition, Soliveres expressed pride in the honor and emphasized the role of real estate development as a core driver of the provincial economy. He noted that the Province of Alicante acts as a key engine contributing to the broader national economic landscape.
During the awards ceremony, a video presentation highlighted Provia’s influence, revealing that member companies contribute to more than 80 percent of new housing construction in the Alicante province. The association also supports 96,000 direct and indirect jobs. Some member firms focus on primary residences, while others specialize in residential tourism. In relation to the latter sector, the organization highlighted that this type of accommodation accounts for 84 percent of foreign tourist overnight stays along the Costa Blanca.
Emphasis on Residential Tourism and Strategic Reform
Looking ahead, Provia underscored several priorities for the sector. The association stressed the importance of elevating residential tourism and called for a timely review of the Valencian Community regional strategy, arguing that the regional plans adopted by municipalities hinge on this framework. At the same time, Provia highlighted the necessity of turning regulatory challenges into tangible outcomes by planning to develop 10,000 affordable homes. Since the real estate sector can be a crucial solution for affordability, this effort would help younger generations gain access to housing. The organization also urged authorities to begin rationalizing bureaucratic processes involved in real estate development.
Provia explained that the Provincial Economy Support Award encompasses the entire network of member companies. Many of these businesses are run by second, third, or even fourth-generation leadership, which shapes a sustained focus on long-term sustainability and innovation in research and development within the sector. These aspects are viewed as essential to maintaining momentum in a changing market and to reinforcing the region’s appeal for both residents and visitors. The message conveyed centers on collaboration between industry, government, and local communities to secure continued growth and resilience for the Alicante economy.
In reflecting on the broader impact of these commitments, the association noted that real estate activity drives employment, supports local supply chains, and contributes to the quality of life that attracts people to live, work, and visit the province. The awards ceremony thus served not only as recognition but also as a call to action for ongoing investment in housing, tourism, and urban development that aligns with sustainable practices and responsible growth. The discourse emphasized that thoughtful planning and streamlined administration are essential for turning opportunity into durable outcomes for generations to come.
