The prosecution has requested a six-year sentence for Rapper Morad on charges of aggravated assault on authority, related to the alleged use and possession of a prohibited weapon. As reported by El Mundo and corroborated by Prensa Ibérica through El Periódico, the artist is accused of resisting arrest and deploying an electric defense device similar to a Taser in front of Mossos d’Esquadra officers during an early dawn pursuit. The incident is said to have occurred on July 17, 2021, during a COVID era curfew in the La Florida neighborhood of L’Hospitalet de Llobregat.
Defense sources for Morad, who had been isolated from his neighborhood due to a precautionary measure ordered by a judge in October, rejected the prosecutor’s account and expressed concern that the singer was repeatedly singled out for scrutiny.
Catalan police and the L’Hospitalet City Guard were alerted by disturbances in the Plaza de los Blocs de La Florida area. They described regulation violations linked to pandemic restrictions that prohibited nighttime street presence. After two in the morning, once the activity subsided, officers reported that glass bottles were hurled at them with insults toward the agents, according to the prosecutor’s indictment submitted to L’Hospitalet Investigating Court No. The document notes that a neighbor indicated potential suspects, and officers entered the cited portal where Morad was allegedly found fleeing through one of the building corridors.
According to the prosecutor’s letter dated April 26, Mossos d’Esquadra officers instructed the singer to stop, but he allegedly ignored the command. The report states that cornered with limited escape options, Morad reportedly drew an electric defense device or Taser, which prosecutors consider a forbidden weapon, and used it against the officers. The accused is described as rushing at the agents in an attempt to overwhelm them, an action the document characterizes as a deliberate assault on an officer’s physical integrity, including a kick directed at a guard.
The prosecutor notes that one officer sustained ankle and knee contusions that required treatment but did not exceed ten days of healing. Ultimately Morad was restrained and taken into custody, and the defense response was filed. Based on these events, the prosecutor seeks an additional four years in prison for aggravated wounding with a firearm and two more years for possession of a prohibited weapon. He also requests Morad reimburse the injured officer 350 euros for damages.
