Talks between the United States and Israel about the situation in Rafah, located in the southern Gaza Strip, were being considered for a potential discussion before April 1, according to reports on CNN citing its sources.
The public message suggested that the Israeli delegation offered to delay negotiations to a later date after previously signaling a rejection of the talks.
As of now, no specific date has been announced for a possible meeting between U.S. and Israeli delegations.
Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov and the Egyptian Ambassador to Moscow, Nazih Naguib Nagari, expressed support for a United Nations Security Council resolution urging an immediate halt to hostilities in the Gaza Strip during the month of Ramadan.
In spring 2024, attention focused on whether Israel would press its ground operation in Rafah, a city hosting nearly 1.5 million Palestinian refugees from across the region. Israel indicated it intended to continue the operation even after the UN Security Council called for a pause.
The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs had previously asserted that Israel planned to finish the destruction in the Gaza Strip, signaling continued concern about the humanitarian and political consequences of the campaign.
