Queue Buildup at the Russia-Lithuania Border: 145 Trucks Stalled, Economic Impact Warned

A growing backlog of heavy trucks moving from Russia into Lithuania has been reported, with the queue reaching 145 vehicles. The information came from RIA Novosti via the Kaliningrad regional customs press office.

According to the ministry, 120 trucks stood before the barrier while 25 were already in the neutral zone, highlighting the congestion at the border crossing.

The press service noted that the Lithuanian side had accepted only 25 trucks by 9 am, which translates to roughly three vehicles per hour crossing into Lithuania.

Reports also indicated that the delay in the scheduled crossing time exceeded 40 hours, as reflected in the operational data channel on the situation at the Chernyshevskoye multilateral automobile checkpoint (MACP).

It emerged that the situation in Kaliningrad was already developing on November 25, when a queue of trucks appeared at the Lithuanian border. At the outset there were about 80 freight vehicles waiting, and the Chernyshevskoye checkpoint to Kybartai remained the sole active point on the Russian-Lithuanian border during the disruption.

Dmitry Lyskov, who previously served as the press secretary for the Kaliningrad regional governor, warned Vilnius of potential negative economic consequences stemming from the possible closure of the checkpoint, underscoring how border friction can ripple through regional supply chains.
