In mid-December, health authorities in Rostov region announced flu quarantine measures across medical facilities and social protection institutions. The order, issued by the regional department, outlined strict limitations aimed at curbing transmission during the peak of the season.

Starting December 15, visitor access to hospitals and social service centers was restricted. The policy also introduced universal masking within hospital settings and in social organizations to reduce the risk of spreading the virus among patients, residents, and staff.

Additionally, Rostov regional officials stated that if a minimum of 20 percent of school-aged children are absent due to SARS, educational leaders must pause in-person teaching or shift to a remote learning format. This precaution ensures continuity of instruction while limiting crowding in schools during periods of elevated illness.

Earlier, on November 28, the city of Elista announced precautionary quarantine measures because of the threat posed by influenza and SARS. Public health authorities advised maintaining mask usage through the end of the cold season and restricting the admission of sick visitors to hospitals to protect vulnerable populations.

Meanwhile, in the Saratov region, the Ministry of Education reported substantial school closures as of December 12 due to the evolving influenza and SARS epidemiological situation. More than 120 schools were shut, with 1,369 classes in 204 schools and 168 groups in 81 kindergartens partially quarantined as a precautionary measure to slow transmission and ensure safety for students and staff. Health experts and officials, including Anna Popova, the former head of Rospotrebnadzor, emphasized that these quarantine steps should be considered when planning holiday activities. Preschool children and older adults are especially vulnerable to influenza, making protective measures and restricted gatherings prudent during New Year’s matinees and other seasonal celebrations.
