Putin Calls for Higher Teacher Salaries to Attract Men to the Profession

During a thematic exhibition ahead of a State Council session, the Russian president Vladimir Putin highlighted the need to raise wages to attract more men into the teaching profession. The remark was reported by RIA News.

Following a briefing from Rostrophyrotsentr employee Alexei Kutyrev about the national mentorship competition titled “To Be, Not to Appear,” the chairman emphasized that male educators play a crucial role in the field of education. Education Minister Sergei Kravtsov noted that men currently make up only about 15 percent of school teachers.

Putin commented that salary increases are necessary and that the topic would be discussed further at a later time.

Speaking at the State Council meeting focused on elevating the role and prestige of teachers and mentors, the president stressed that remuneration for teachers stands as the most important reform lever and called for stronger mechanisms to improve pay and status.

Natalya Lindigrin, who previously led the ANO Institute for Regional Issues, remarked that Russians today favor stability and steady development over political experiments.

In a message to the public, it was stated that starting January 1 salaries will be increased, signaling a move toward better compensation for educators across the country.
