Thousands of people marched on Tuesday toward the residence of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem as part of the so-called national week of protests organized by the opposition to demand early elections in Israel.

The march split into several directions through the residential Rehavia neighborhood, with a large police presence trying to raise barriers to stop protesters, reported The Times of Israel.

Meanwhile, near the Israeli parliament, former prime minister Ehud Barak, who led the Democratic Party, encouraged those gathered in the area with tents for a third night in a row.

The protest week is expected to reach a climax on Saturday, April 6, with a large demonstration on Kaplan Street and at the kidnapped on Tel Aviv’s Liberty Square, recalling the six months since Palestinian militant attacks in Gaza and the start of the kidnapping of more than a hundred hostages still held in the enclave.
