The National Police arrested a 47-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman after they were seen walking along public roads in Granada while apparently under the influence of substances. They were with a three-year-old child who was pushed in a stroller, raising questions about the safety of the minor and the couple’s ability to care for him.
According to a police press release, the pair, both Spanish nationals, are under investigation for possible crimes against family rights and duties. The incident occurred after nine or ten o’clock in the evening when officers on patrol in the Camino de Ronda area responded to concerns raised by several pedestrians who observed signs of intoxication. The pair were seen occupying a vehicle with the child inside, and witnesses reported that the couple argued and that the minor repeatedly cried.
Shortly after, the 091 line received multiple calls from different witnesses who had witnessed the scene. Officers later identified the individuals they had seen moving about in a disoriented and unsteady manner, with the man pushing the stroller containing the child.
The man allegedly lost his balance while near the woman, fell to the ground, and struggled to stand up again. The court and security services were informed, and the minor’s welfare became a central concern of the investigation.
Junior accepted into the Junior Center
During the actions, additional symptoms and behavior were reported as the officers evaluated the situation. At one point, the woman attempted to strike one of the officers while showing no regard for her condition, and no action was taken against her at that moment due to concerns for her health.
Given the evident incapacity of the adults to ensure the child’s safety and physical well-being, the decision was made to transfer the trio to a health facility and initiate the protocol for abandoned minors. The detained individuals were then referred to the Provincial Security Directorate to face potential charges.
As the intervention continued, more witnesses provided details on how the events unfolded. The child’s parents were described as clearly neglectful, leaving the three-year-old unattended in the street while they interacted with the crowd and impeded vehicle movement.
The infant, showing signs of abandonment, was temporarily placed in a Junior Center. In the course of a medical examination conducted on the child carrier, a knife was discovered hidden within the upper hood and seized by authorities.
