Civil Guard operation ends with arrest in Las Colinas de Aguadulce
A resident of the Las Colinas de Aguadulce housing development in Roquetas de Mar, Almería, was surrounded and taken into custody after barricading himself inside his home. Local authorities reported that the incident began when shots were fired into the air from the residence, drawing the attention of neighbors and security forces alike.
Officials from the Almería Command explained to EFE that officers followed standard procedures and made use of all available resources to gain entry. The operation ultimately required access to the attic where the man had taken shelter, a move that underscores the careful, staged approach used in such high-tension situations.
At this moment, it remains unclear whether the weapon employed was a real firearm or a detonator. Regardless, authorities praised the rapid response and the cooperation of residents, which helped pave the way for a swift and safe resolution to the standoff.
Juan Carlos Oyonarte, who heads the Las Colinas de Aguadulce neighborhood association, stated that streets were closed briefly but were later reopened to traffic and pedestrian passage. He noted that security forces took measures to protect access to the affected property while the arrest was carried out, and he described the armed intervention as efficient and orderly.
According to Oyonarte, the man accused of firing into the air had been involved in another disturbance earlier in the day, allegedly tossing beer bottles from the rooftop to the street. He added that police intervention had previously deterred further escalation, and the Civil Guard remained at the scene to ensure safety and containment.
The neighborhood association issued a message on its social channels asking residents to avoid the first section of Miguel Rueda Street and the second section of Movimiento Indaliano Street during the incident. The notice also requested neighbor cooperation to maintain calm and prevent any further confrontations.
Witnesses reported that a firearm discharge occurred again on Monday, with the individual reportedly at home when authorities conducted the arrest. The Civil Guard and Local Police then conducted a controlled sweep to secure the area and prevent access to the property involved. No additional injuries were reported, and residents were advised to remain vigilant as investigations continue. The case has sparked discussion among local residents about safety and community awareness, with many expressing relief that police response was prompt and contained the threat.
Official statements highlighted the importance of rapid, coordinated action and the role of community cooperation in resolving such incidents without further incident. The authorities emphasized that proper procedures were followed at every step, from containment to entry, arrest, and the safeguarding of nearby homes and streets.
