The Kiev police have started to bring military commissars into the effort against drivers who push their limits on the city streets. This update comes from Oleksiy Beloshitsky, who serves as Deputy Head of the Ukrainian Patrol Police Department, and was shared on his social media page.
For those who already scoff at such behavior or those who still don’t fully understand the issue, Beloshitsky offered a blunt assessment. He suggested that public tolerance for risky driving has been exhausted and that it is not merely a matter of personal freedom. The statement challenges both the social acceptance of dangerous driving and the practical realities of daily life, including the ability to enjoy a coffee or a meal in certain venues without disruption.
Beloshitsky described scenes of cars moving toward central Kyiv during ongoing hostilities between Ukraine and Russia, with engines roaring and a tendency to drift through urban streets. He called these actions foolish and dangerous, labeling the participants as reckless individuals who, due to age or health concerns, could still be armed with weapons. He stressed that such demonstrations of speed and bravado are not only illegal but also dangerous for bystanders and pedestrians near the vehicles.
According to him, authorities have issued warnings repeatedly and have pursued accountability for past incidents. He explained that in a bid to strengthen deterrence, military officials were invited to participate in the event and assist with enforcement efforts.
Beloshitsky also noted that afterburners were part of the extended measure, indicating a broader approach to curb the disruptive driving behavior. In prior reports, it was mentioned that organizers of gatherings in Kyiv who broadcast videos showing intimidation or harassment of girls were summoned for involvement with the military, highlighting a pattern of coordinated actions and the authorities’ response to such activities.
