Local Police in Jerez have detained a man accused of unlawful detention, sexual assault, and gender-based violence against his partner. She sought help at a public establishment after fleeing the home following the most recent attack.
According to a statement released by the Jerez City Council, the Gender Violence Unit of the Local Police was able to assist the woman. She was weeping, visibly anxious, and described ongoing episodes of intimidation and aggression since the start of the relationship with her current partner.
The woman explained that the man kept her confined against her will at the residence, restricted her movements and phone communications, and forced her to have sexual relations.
She also reported that in the latest incident she was kicked, punched, and violently shaken. During that episode she managed to seize a moment when the perpetrator was asleep, allowing her to escape and seek refuge at a public venue where police assistance was requested.
The victim was taken to a medical facility for treatment of injuries and then escorted to the police station for the appropriate filings. While the Gender Violence Team attended to the woman, officers went to the home to locate the alleged aggressor, who was identified, detained, and transported to police facilities.
