Police confrontation and arrest linked to drug trafficking allegations in Zaragoza
A 24-year-old man of Dominican descent, identified as KALV, became the focus of a violent confrontation after police were alerted to suspicious activity in the Parque Romainside area of Zaragoza, specifically in the Delicias district. During the incident, the individual allegedly threw an officer down stairs, assaulted another officer, and attempted to seize a firearm from a third person. Following these actions, he was detained on suspicion of battering and related offenses.
The event occurred around 10 pm last November as officers responded to reports of illicit activity. Security footage from La Terraza bar on Santander Street was reviewed as part of the investigation. According to authorities, the man attempted to conceal himself by moving toward a nearby establishment, but an agent pursued him and ultimately made an arrest.
Carmen Sánchez Herrero, the lawyer representing the drug trafficker, stated that the video shows the individual moving quickly toward his workplace, attempting to incapacitate an officer and subdue them. She asserted that the behavior observed on the footage was unnecessary and that the client never mounted the officer. The attorney requested that the agent be examined for injuries, labeling the claims as untrue.
The investigation also notes the involvement of plainclothes officers from the Citizens’ Security Brigade at the Aragon regional police headquarters. The suspect allegedly discarded marijuana tablets and fled toward Santander Street, after engaging in a physical confrontation with another person who had fallen to the ground. A colleague who pursued the suspect reportedly reached him and was attacked, allowing the suspect to enter a restaurant. Other officers who had been called to assist reportedly entered the same venue with him, all part of an escalation in the incident. The individual has a history of similar events, according to police reports. [Citation: Local News – Zaragoza, 2024]
