A 22-year-old man identified by initials DPS was arrested in Oviedo on a Saturday morning after an attempted stabbing spree against his partner and several officers. The National and Local Police responded to defend the woman, following a call about an incident on Canóniga street shortly after 9:30 a.m.

Witnesses and officials described the young man as highly agitated and violent as they arrived at the scene. He was found in a state of apparent distress, brandishing a knife and making aggressive moves toward his partner. Earlier, he reportedly encountered a group of individuals and ignored police attempts to de-escalate the situation.

As the confrontation continued, the man wielding the knife forced one officer to shield the woman while another officer attempted to disarm him. The suspect repeatedly struck the officers, escalating the danger faced by all present. In response, additional units from the National Police and Oviedo Local Police were requested to provide support and containment.

The officers struggled to subdue the suspect as he resisted with considerable force. At one point he attempted to seize a firearm from a member of the police team, prompting a vigorous clash that lasted several tense minutes. Eventually, the officers succeeded in restraining the man and taking him into custody.

The individual sustained injuries during the arrest, including wounds to the shoulders and forehead and cuts on the arms. He was transported to a hospital for medical attention and to receive the necessary medical control. The initial chaos at the location also involved damage to furniture and affected medical staff present at the scene.

Later that day, the situation began to calm down, and the suspect was taken to court for processing. Prosecutors requested a prison sentence of three years for the initial charges. The case, however, is scheduled to be presented before the Criminal Court of First Instance for formal proceedings. In addition to the current charges, the suspect faces another legal matter in which he is accused of involvement in a forced robbery, with an anticipated four-year prison term if convicted.
