In the Leningrad region, a trainee pilot lost control during approach and caused a light aircraft to come down on the roof of a building near Gostilitsy airfield. This information was released by the North West Transport Prosecutor’s Office.
On August 17, an incident occurred during the landing of a light aircraft at the airfield in the village of Gostilitsy, Lomonosov district.
According to reports from 78.ru, the overturned Cessna 172, used by a private pilot training center, was involved in the incident as part of a routine training exercise.
Following a training flight conducted the previous evening, the aircraft’s wing struck the ground, causing the fuselage to nose over and roll onto its side. Despite the unusual position, no visible damage was reported to the aircraft accordingly.
There were no injuries, the transportation prosecutor’s office noted in a public statement.
Investigators from the department are now assessing the circumstances surrounding the event and verifying whether flight safety regulations were observed. The preliminary assessment attributes the incident primarily to unfavorable weather conditions. A medical examination confirmed that both the 36-year-old pilot and the 36-year-old student on board were not under the influence of alcohol.
Earlier in August, the same airfield experienced another issue when a cat on the runway prevented a first attempt at takeoff.
Additionally, a separate incident earlier involved a light aircraft pilot losing control and colliding with a pedestrian on a bicycle, prompting safety reviews and discussions within the local aviation community.
