Two people died when a small plane crash occurred near Níjar in Almería, Spain. The aircraft, associated with a flight school based in Málaga, One Air Aviation, was en route to Valencia when the tragedy unfolded on Wednesday morning in the Nijar municipality.

Authorities from the Government Sub-Delegation in Almería confirmed to EFE that the aircraft took off from Almería airport shortly before 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday and vanished from radar as it headed toward its destination. The flight carried two occupants at the time.

Initial reports indicate that contact with the plane was lost shortly after takeoff. The school principal alerted the Valencia airport that the flight had not reached its intended destination, triggering a coordinated search operation in the area.

Around 00:30, the Andalusian Emergency Service 112 received a request from the Valencian Community’s 112 line to coordinate search efforts for the missing aircraft. A joint response followed, with information shared among multiple agencies, including Almería Firefighters, the Emergency Medical Center (CES) 061, the Local Police, the Civil Guard, the National Police and its Community Unit, Infoca, Air Traffic Control, the Coordination and Rescue Center, Civil Protection of Níjar, Sea Rescue, Almería Airport, and the Government Sub-Delegation in Almería.

As reported by the Sub-Delegation, dawn revealed the crash site in the Cerro del Fraile area of Níjar. The aircraft remained found, with no survivors reported at the time of discovery.

The Civil Guard’s Mountain Rescue and Intervention Group (GREIM) recovered the bodies of the deceased.

Almería Airport remained open during the night to allow aircraft participating in the search operation to refuel and continue the response efforts.
