The Peruvian Public Prosecutor’s Office released a statement on Sunday regarding searches tied to the investigation against Dina Boluarte, the country’s president, in the Rolex case. The probe contemplates possible offenses such as illicit enrichment and failure to declare documents connected with the luxury watches worn by the president.
The note explains that the operation occurred at the residence, office, and presidential lodge in the Government Palace during the night of March 29 into the early hours of March 30, 2024. It was conducted under the authority of the Special Preliminary Investigation Court of the Supreme Court, a detail used to insist that the intervention was not illegitimate, unconstitutional, or abusive.
Additionally, the institution contends that, contrary to the president’s claims, the entry to the suspect’s home was initiated after the intercom was rung and the presence of the prosecutor and police was explained to Daniel Gómez Boluarte, who asked for voluntary entry and indicated to wait briefly.
According to authorities, after a few minutes the doorbell was rung repeatedly without a response, prompting the descerraje—forced opening of the main door—as documented in the search record with the descerraje and the judicial notification of the measure.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office has also denied responsibility for disseminating the images captured at the moment of the home entry, stating that no members of the Institutional Image Office were present at the scene.
They further distanced themselves from other photographs or videos showing documents, cards, minutes, and similar items circulating in various media outlets and social networks in relation to the described action.
In the course of the mentioned diligence, the Rolex watches were not located nor handed over to the president, despite requests. Nevertheless, other items of interest to the investigation were obtained. The Prosecutor’s Office notes that the president has been formally summoned to present the Rolex watches and provide a statement on Friday, April 5, 2024, for clarity on the matter.
