A Pentagon spokesperson indicated that Russia remains willing to collaborate with Moscow to fully uphold the terms of Washington’s Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START) following recent intercontinental ballistic missile tests. This update comes from DEA News and reflects ongoing dialogue about arms control despite tensions.

It was noted that Russia conducts intercontinental ballistic missile tests on a recurring basis, similar to the United States. However, Russia’s unilateral move to suspend its participation in START is described as irresponsible and deplorable by a U.S. source. The United States expresses readiness to engage constructively with Russia in order to implement the treaty’s provisions in full.

Earlier, the Russian Defense Ministry press service stated that the strategic missile forces conducted an intercontinental ballistic missile test from the Kapustin Yar test site in the Astrakhan region.

On the previous day, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov reported the test launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile from Kapustin Yar to Washington.

In a message to the Federal Assembly on February 21 of this year, President Vladimir Putin announced that Russia had suspended its participation in START but did not withdraw from the agreement. A related law was signed on February 28.
