A retired man who set a car ablaze as revenge was detained in the Primorsky district of St. Petersburg, according to a report from the city’s police department.

On February 27, district officers responded to a report of a car on fire near a residence on Begovaya Street. Firefighters arrived to find a Mitsubishi Galant that had been partially burned and a SsangYong nearby. The vehicle owner, a 43-year-old man of Japanese descent, later estimated the damage at 400,000 rubles and urged authorities to identify and prosecute the person responsible for the arson. The incident prompted a formal investigation into property damage caused by intentional fire-setting.

On the same day, a 64-year-old man was taken into custody on suspicion of arson. He admitted to his actions and explained that he knew the vehicle owner, who had been renting an apartment from him for a period. The suspect claimed he targeted the tenant after suspecting him of stealing money, choosing to act in vengeance by starting the blaze. The case remains under investigation and is being handled as intentional damage to property.

Earlier reports note another act of arson involving a foreign car valued at 8.5 million rubles, which occurred in a Krasnoyarsk garage. This prior incident is referenced in police communications as part of a pattern of vehicle-related arson cases being reviewed by authorities.
