The government has released its forecast for price rises and pension adjustments for the upcoming year. Officials familiar with the administration’s projections say that pensions set to begin in January will rise by around 4 percent, with the final figure dependent on the CPI data released later in the year.

Alongside this forecast, the Ministry of Participation, Social Security and Migration published a report titled Public Pension Expenditure Projections in Spain, which outlines planned increases in pensions for the coming year. The projections cover scenarios with and without allowances.

Under non-contributory pensions, ministry calculations suggest an increase of up to 300 euros per year for specific beneficiary groups.

Increase in pensions in 2024 confirmed

With government approval, a 4 percent rise in pensions is anticipated. An analysis by El Periódico de España indicates that the minimum pension could reach about 14,453 euros annually, which is roughly 926 euros higher each year. An additional 2 percent uplift is projected for 2025.

More than 300 euros per year

According to the aforementioned media coverage, authorities aim to narrow the gender gap in widow’s pensions, with adjustments estimated between 300 and 500 euros starting in 2024.

Based on the 4 percent reference, widow’s pensions with family responsibilities would stand around 942 euros per month. For recipients aged 65 or older or disabled at 65 percent or more, the pension would be about 814 euros monthly; those aged 60 to 64 would receive around 762 euros; and individuals under 60 would receive about 617 euros monthly.

In this framework, the widow’s pension beneficiaries can expect a boost that also acknowledges gender disparities in earnings histories.

Additionally, the plan to reduce the gender gap is set to be aligned with the CPI, meaning the 2024 adjustments could reflect a broader price-level change. Forecasts from El Periódico de España suggest this alignment could push the total increase for eligible widows to the vicinity of 10 percent in 2024, depending on CPI outcomes.

If these forecasts hold, widow pension entitlements may include supplementary benefits tied to gender disparity. The estimated range for monthly supplements lies between 30 and 35 euros, amounting to roughly 490 euros per year in total extra support.
