By late 2024, over seven in ten children and youths aged 5 to 19 are expected to be part of the patriotic education framework. Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova spoke about this during a plenary session focused on what matters in education, as reported by TASS and cited by officials.
Golikova outlined that reaching 72 percent coverage of young people in the education system by the end of 2024 stands as a central objective of the federal Patriotic Education program, which has been underway since 2021. She credited the progress largely to the work of the First Movement, a youth organization that has helped advance the initiative.
She also highlighted the competitiveness of the current education system, noting that schools and colleges provide employment for about 9.5 percent of Russia’s workforce. Citing a VTsIOM survey, she noted that a large majority of students take pride in their country, with 95 percent expressing patriotic sentiment.
Earlier, Yana Lantratova, the first deputy chair of the State Duma Education Committee from the Fair Russia – For Truth faction, suggested that schools in Russia will hold events on February 24 to mark the anniversary of the start of Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine. She emphasized the importance of commemorations tied to this milestone.
In addition, she noted that a new school subject, Fundamentals of Homeland Security and Defense, will include modules on information security and cyber threats, expanding the focus to broader national safety literacy.
