Jordi’s mother learned not only that her only son had been killed by her ex-husband, the father of her young child, but also that a patrikiller was involved. He ensured he heard what was happening before the act, offering a stark example of indirect violence where abusers push their children to harm the partner or ex-partner.
The events are detailed in a compiled account. A provisional tax qualification was issued after the Civil Guard report on Swedish patricide. The case is set for a hearing later this month, with testimonies from key witnesses, including Jordi’s mother, whom the Prosecutor’s Office called to testify, along with other lesser penalties noted by Levante-EMV on a recent Wednesday.
Insistence on bringing the child
In the provisional document from the prosecutor’s office, the violence against women unit records that the crime occurred on April 3, 2022. The suspect began a persistent pursuit of his ex-wife from nine in the morning, despite a court order forbidding any contact since August 2021.
According to reports, the couple lived with their son in Sueca. The place and address where the father was killed were in the same residence where the mother and child had fled months earlier after the ex-husband’s abuse. The mother had moved to her parents’ home in Cullera with Jordi on March 13, 2021. Persistent harassment continued for months, including into April 3.
The father’s killer is in discussion
Two days earlier, Jordi had turned 11 on April 1. That day, José Antonio AC, now 49, had made a deal with his ex-wife to take the boy to Sueca for a birthday meal. He began calling her first thing Sunday morning, April 3, to request the boy, but she reminded him the pick-up time was 1 p.m. as arranged.
When he arrived home, the mother left Jordi at street level as usual and waited for him to come in. The last image she recalls is Jordi turning to him and saying something as his father opened the door. The first signs of trouble appeared about an hour later.
He kept stabbing even though his child objected
In the prosecutor’s timeline, the child sent a message to his mother at 14:04 asking urgently for help. Before this, after an argument with the father, the killer did not elaborate on what happened. He took two table knives and told his son to come along.
The father confessed that Jordi begged him not to hurt his mother. The boy’s words echoed in the room: he cried out, asking his father not to hurt anyone. Yet the attacker pressed on, and the Prosecutor’s Office states that he acted with the intent to take his son’s life, beginning the fatal stabbing.
The child’s cry of despair
When Jordi’s mother read the emergency message, she raced to the scene in a car from Cullera to Sueca, driving at high speed to reach her son. Meantime, the killer sought the boy publicly, trying to slow down any chance of escape.
At 14:14, ten minutes after the urgent message, the lethal assault was underway. The patrikiller allowed Jordi to speak briefly with his mother, letting him ask for help. Jordi could only shout a heartbreaking plea, calling out, “Mom!” The line went dead almost immediately.
The mother, powerless, contacted her ex-mother-in-law who lived nearby and begged for help. The ex-mother-in-law advised Jordi to run away because something bad had happened, but the patrikide, already at the door, did not respond to their cries.
Minutes later, police arrived and forced entry. They found Jordi lifeless on the ground, and the killer motionless as well.
24 wounds
The prosecutor details that Jordi sustained 24 stab wounds, most of them from the front and affecting major blood vessels. The boy had tried to defend himself with his hands, but the age and size difference, combined with the attacker’s intent and a history of abuse, overwhelmed any defense. Forensic findings confirmed an absolute killing intent and a calculated attempt to maximize harm, turning murder into an act of extreme betrayal with no chance for defense by the victim.
Accepting the facts but denying the crime
José Antonio CA admitted the facts but did not acknowledge guilt outright. He continued to place blame on his ex-wife, repeating sexist allegations he had previously made to the Investigating Judge, who oversees violence against women, when she first appeared in April 2021, two days after Jordi’s death.
The scene and investigation raised questions about accountability and the influence of coercive control in intimate partner violence, underscoring the broader pattern of gender-based violence that culminated in the tragedy.
The case has prompted ongoing examination by forensic and psychological experts who contributed to the comprehensive forensic evaluation. The Valencia Institute of Forensic Medicine issued a conclusion regarding the confessed perpetrator that did not indicate a mental disorder affecting criminal liability. The experts described a motive rooted in sexist domination and control, aimed at inflicting as much harm as possible. This is viewed as a stark illustration of indirect violence that leaves lasting scars on families and communities.
