In a session marked by clear partisanship, MPs from PP, Ciudadanos, and Vox were decisive in weighing their votes as the European Parliament petitions committee examined a set of eight complaints and demands lodged by citizens and organizations against the amnesty project. The proposal is currently under review by Spain’s Congress of Deputies. In response to this fresh challenge, the parliamentary committee opted to request information from the Government, including Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, and from the European Commission, about the evolution of the law and the possible implications. The committee also directed its work to seek separate opinions from the Civil Liberties Commission and the European Parliament’s Economic Affairs Committee. At the urging of the PP, the committee will decide whether to forward a document in February to the Spain mission.
