New paid leaves under Family Law have been confirmed. The updated permits for caring for relatives or cohabitants are outlined in the royal decree and offer three options:
-
Five days per year to care for sick relatives or cohabitants up to the second degree, or unrelated cohabitants living together. This leave is paid and applies in cases of accident, serious illness, or nonhospitalized recovery needing rest.
-
A provision allowing fathers and mothers to attend emergencies involving their children. Known as force majeure leave, it can be requested hourly or daily up to four days per year in full.
-
Up to eight weeks of parental leave. It is not paid currently, but policy may change. This leave can be taken continuously or intermittently until the child reaches eight years old.
These new permissions aim to support work family balance by enabling care for loved ones without wasting vacation days.
