In Oviedo, a startling incident unfolded as authorities reported a self-proclaimed case of theft and deception. At noon, the National Police Headquarters in Asturias confirmed that on January 6 a resident of Oviedo filed a complaint alleging he had been drugged to facilitate a theft. According to his account, two men who had pressed the doorbell were allowed into his home after they claimed they were stranded, without money, and in need of shelter. The visitor agreed to help, inviting them inside and sharing some food and drinks with them.
Later, the homeowner, a middle-aged man living alone, lost consciousness and woke up the following afternoon around three o’clock. He discovered that several items were missing, including mobile phones, about 550 euros in cash, personal documents, a Thermomix valued at roughly 1,500 euros, and other valuables. In addition, using the stolen phones, the culprits reportedly swindled another 500 euros through the Bizum payment platform and arranged a quick loan worth 300 euros.
That same day, the man sought medical attention at a local hospital accompanied by relatives. Medical staff performed multiple tests and issued a formal report noting the presence of benzodiazepines in his system, suggesting he had been administered sedatives during the incident.
Following the complaint, the Oviedo National Police launched an investigation aimed at tracing the recipients of the transferred funds and locating the stolen items. The inquiry led to the identification of two individuals as the presumed authors of the offenses of theft and fraud. One of the suspects was found at the Asturias Penitentiary Center, while the other remained at large and was being sought for arrest.
As the investigation continued, authorities emphasized the importance of evaluating security measures at home when strangers arrive under suspicious pretenses. The case underscores the risk of accepting aid from unfamiliar visitors and the potential vulnerability of residents who live alone. Local police urged residents to report any similar encounters and to safeguard personal valuables and financial information, especially when electronic payments are involved. The authorities also noted that proper identification and careful verification of the strangers’ claims can prevent dangerous situations from escalating. The investigation remains open as officials work to recover the remaining stolen items and to complete the process of charging those responsible for the alleged crimes.
