Since yesterday, authorities in Oviedo have been examining the circumstances surrounding the death of an eighty-year-old man found in his Ciudad Naranco home. The elderly woman was discovered after her daughter reportedly fell from the apartment. The home at 30 Augusto Junquera Street is a fifth floor residence where EMNR, a 45-year-old who had been seriously injured, reportedly lived with his mother’s body for several days. While investigators have not closed the case, the possibility of homicide remains under consideration.
The alarm sounded around four in the afternoon when neighbors reported a woman who had fallen from the fifth floor into an interior courtyard and onto a rear terrace. Emergency services were mobilized quickly, and a police unit headed to Ciudad Naranco. A local shop owner, Iván Javier Cabal, recalled being asked to help unlock the door because firefighters would force entry. He described finding the injured man who, despite the chaos, remained conscious and even provided his name when spoken to by officers.
They later found the body of the elderly woman on the fifth floor in Oviedo after her daughter was reported to have fallen from the window. The woman who had fallen was taken to a mobile urgent care unit while neighbors indicated she had lived with her mother on the right-hand fifth floor. After knocking and receiving no response, firefighters assisted in entering the residence. Inside, officials found the elderly woman with signs of violence and evidence suggesting she had been dead for several days. Judicial Police and Scientific Police were called to collect material to clarify the events.
Meanwhile, uniformed officers from the National Police secured the building while investigators worked extensively at the apartment shared by the deceased and her daughter. Some residents, unable to grasp what had happened, expressed their distress openly. A bystander described the scene as shocking and unacceptable as funeral home workers later transported the woman to the Asturias Institute of Forensic Medicine for an autopsy, which was planned to determine the cause of death.
Those acquainted with the occupants described a strained relationship between the two women. A neighbor who asked not to be named recalled frequent quarrels and disruptions that could be heard on the street. He noted that the daughter had treated her mother poorly and that the elderly woman was sometimes seen on the street after being expelled from home. He added that there were times when the atmosphere grew violently tense, and that the daughter appeared to be in a troubled state.
Veronica Fariza, a resident at 30 Augusto Junquera Street, confirmed that tensions between mother and daughter were evident. She added that anyone living in the building or nearby would attest to ongoing problems, which were widely observed by the community. The unfolding events have left neighbors in disbelief and seeking answers about what transpired in the home that day, and how the two women ended up in such a tragic situation. The investigation continues with authorities analyzing testimonies and physical evidence to build a clearer timeline of events and determine responsibility, if any, in this distressing case.
