Oil Tank Fire Near Usinsk: Latest Updates and Local Impact
An update from Komi’s Minister of Nature, Ekaterina Kiselevich, reports that a second oil tank ignited near Usinsk. The relevant information is published on the ministry’s website and its Telegram channel, confirming ongoing monitoring and response efforts.
According to the minister, the first tank has collapsed and is being extinguished. The second tank was observed to be filled with oil to a height of five to seven meters, creating a significant risk if conditions worsen. Responders continue to assess the threat and coordinate cooling measures to prevent further spread.
Officials noted that the reservoir is above ground, and adjacent containers are kept full of water, which reduces the chance of runoff or widespread contamination. At this stage there is no confirmed information about an explosion or environmental contamination.
Earlier reports from Komi indicated that approximately one person was injured in the incident involving an oil tanker. The minister stated there was no oil present in the tank that exploded, and there has been no reported leakage or contamination linked to that particular incident.
Confirmation from the regional main department of the Ministry of Emergencies of Russia notes that as of 11:30 Moscow time, the RVS-5000 tank caught fire at the Lukoil-Usinskneftegaz thermal power plant in the village of Vozey, located about 70 kilometers from Usinsk. Emergency responders are actively managing the scene and ensuring safety around the facility.
Witnesses had previously described a fire following a gas explosion in a five-story building in Tobolsk, underscoring the broader regional energy and safety concerns. Officials emphasize careful investigation and ongoing risk assessment to prevent further incidents in the area.
