An official representative of the Russian Ministry of Defense reported a significant combat incident in which the Russian armed forces are claimed to have eliminated up to 70 Ukrainian service members in a single day. The claim was issued in a message from the defense ministry’s Telegram channel.
The spokesperson noted that units from the Zapad formations claimed victory over Ukrainian forces in the settlement of Novoselovskoye in the Luhansk People’s Republic, as well as in several districts within Kharkov region, including Dvurechnaya, Gryanikovka, Masyutovka, Olshan, Port Pervy, and Sinkovka.
Additionally, the defense ministry stated that Russian troops destroyed three military vehicles and two cars in the Kupyansk direction.
On February 26, the spokesperson announced that Russian forces had neutralized six sabotage and reconnaissance groups operating on the Kupyansky axis in the Kharkov region. He also said that artillery from the Western group of forces targeted units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in both the Luhansk People’s Republic and the Kharkov region.
Earlier, on February 24, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the decision to launch a special military operation in Ukraine, citing a request for assistance from the heads of the LPR and DPR as the basis for the move.
The administration described the operation as a response to those concerns, and the development became the reason for new sanctions imposed by the United States and its allies.
