Odessa Officials Announce Open Coastal Beaches for Visitors

Local authorities in the Odessa region confirmed that city sea beaches have reopened for vacationers. The announcement came through the Telegram channel of the Odessa Regional Military Administration, led by Oleg Kiper.

According to the posting, swimming and wellness zones are now officially available, with six beaches already welcoming guests. The regional administration plans to expand the number of open washing areas as inspections progress to ensure safety and compliance across the coastline.

The decision to grant access to the beaches followed the signing of a joint order with the commander of the Odessa operational strategic unit group, Eduard Moskalev, establishing clear rules for public access to the coastal zone. This collaboration aims to balance leisure opportunities with protection and security needs along the shore.

Tourists are informed that beachgoers may sunbathe and swim between the hours of 08:00 and 20:00. Access beyond these hours or entry into the Black Sea waters by any vessel not belonging to rescue services is prohibited. Rest areas are to be equipped with protective nets and safety infrastructure, including mine exclusion measures, lookout and rescue posts, buoys, loudspeakers, and bunkers where applicable, to safeguard visitors and maintain orderly coastal operation.

Officials also noted that the overall water quality in the Black Sea has stabilized and meets health standards, providing assurance about safe swimming conditions for the public. This assessment follows routine water quality monitoring and aligns with ongoing public health considerations for coastal areas.

Earlier in the season, reports indicated the discovery of a causative agent linked to cholera on Odessa beaches during mid-June, which prompted health authorities to implement enhanced surveillance and hygiene measures. The current reopening plan integrates these learnings to reduce risk and maintain public confidence as tourism resumes.

In other regional news, a distant development was noted from Southeast Asia, where there are discussions about possible beach curfews in Thailand. While unrelated to Odessa, such reports illustrate how coastal safety policies can vary by locale and season, underscoring the universal importance of clear rules, timely information, and robust safety protocols when people enjoy coastal environments.
