After a cautious start, car sales in the state surged in October with an interannual rise of 16.98 percent, according to data from the leading sector associations Anfac, Ganvam, and Faconauto. The month saw a notable uptick in Alicante, where 2,618 vehicles were registered compared with 2,238 in the same period last year. This performance is particularly meaningful because the vast majority of purchases came from private buyers, with little car rental activity in October as the tourist season wound down.

The rebound highlights that household consumption remains resilient, even as financing costs and inflation edge higher. Observers at Faconauto suggest that price controls during the summer and the narrowing of rate hikes may have encouraged families to invest more in mobility. They also point to greater vehicle availability at dealerships after production normalized among major European manufacturers.

Hybrid and electric vehicles continued to lead the market, accounting for 45.26 percent of all registrations and totaling 1,185 transactions in the province last month. This puts them nearly on par with gasoline vehicles, which represented 45.91 percent with 1,202 registrations. Diesel share continued to contract, with only 231 sales in September, now representing just 8.82 percent of the market.

A large showroom presence is common, with many models on display at local dealerships.

Cumulatively for the year, the province has reached 34,101 registrations, an increase of 28.35 percent. Among these, 15,633 were private purchases, 9,253 were fleets from rental companies, and 9,215 were company vehicles, illustrating a broad mix of consumer and business demand.

Brands

Brand distribution shows two Korean names sharing the top spot. Hyundai and Kia together moved 4,551 units, a result that contrasts with the broader European supply chain challenges faced previously. Peugeot followed with 2,821 registrations; Renault placed 1,869; Dacia registered 1,768; and Citroën reached 1,623.

The market resilience of these players reflects ongoing demand across segments and the region’s appetite for a mix of compact, family, and practical vehicles, backed by a steady flow of vehicles to local showrooms.

Leasing already accounts for one in four vehicle registrations

Meanwhile, the sector continues to see strong interest from leasing programs, which now account for a significant share of total registrations. This trend aligns with broader affordability strategies among buyers who seek predictable monthly costs and flexible options for upgrading fleets as needs evolve.

The Chinese manufacturer MG has emerged as a notable disruptor, selling 1,352 units and achieving an important market foothold in the region. Tesla remains a key presence as well, with 397 units registered in the province, underscoring the growing diversification of the local auto market.
