In a world where knowledge is power, the Social Security administration recently shared an important message that affects workers and retirees alike. The Ministry of Participation and Social Security, led by Elma Saiz, announced this update through its Twitter channel.

Known as Citizen Attention, this account serves as a key source of information about procedures, benefits, pensions, and answers to citizens’ questions. This week the focus is on the Social Security Number, a crucial element for everyone and an essential part of access to services.

NUSS: a mandatory and mostly unknown number

Although it is highly important, the Social Security administration notes that the Social Security Number remains a big unknown for many people. This number is not only needed for pensioners, subsidy recipients, or benefit holders, but also required to connect or enroll workers in any Social Security plan. It is also vital for joining the healthcare system.

Where to find the Social Security number

The big question is where to locate this number. The administration states that the NUSS can be checked through the portal import@ss. When users access the Personal Area or Personal Data section, the number is clearly displayed. Verification can be done using a digital certificate, electronic ID, Cl@ve, or an SMS, as long as the linked mobile number is registered in the Social Security database.

For workers, the NUSS can also be found on the payslip, the employment contract, or the working life record. If it is not available, it can be requested through Import@SS, or if a person is starting a new job, the employer must complete the procedure.

NUSS and students under 28

Here is an important detail: a Social Security Number is also required for students under 28 to continue official work. This stems from the requirements of School Insurance, which becomes mandatory from the third year of compulsory secondary education until the end of the third university semester.

Is NUSS the same as a membership number or health card number?

A common question is whether the NUSS matches the Membership Number (NAF) or the number on the health card. The Social Security authority explains that the NUSS becomes the NAF when a person first begins working and is enrolled in the Social Security System. This number is also included on the health card, though it is not exactly the same.

The initiative to share information through social networks like Twitter is a crucial step in keeping both employees and retirees well informed. Understanding the relevance of the Social Security Number enables proper administration of procedures and benefits. This approach demonstrates the Ministry of Participation and Social Security’s commitment to transparent, accessible information. Getting to know the NUSS and how to use it correctly is more than a necessity; it is a move toward more efficient and secure management of rights and obligations.
