A Saransk Neurology Ward Incident Involving a Patient and a Nurse

A resident of Saransk who was receiving care in the neurology department attempted to strangle a nurse after she refused to remove her medical mask. Reports from the Saransk Proletarian World Tribunal reference the event under the headline Big C. The incident is described as unfolding within the premises of the republic clinical hospital, where the patient was under neurological treatment at the time.

On the morning of the incident, the patient entered the nurse’s office around 6:00 a.m. and requested writing supplies. He then demanded that the nurse remove her protective mask, a demand that the nurse declined. The patient’s initial reaction shifted from anger to aggression; he tore the mask away himself but did not stop there. He pressed the nurse against a closet, seized her by the throat, and began to suffocate her while issuing threats of murder.

Authorities opened a criminal case against the patient. Forensic evaluation determined that the man suffered from paranoid schizophrenia and, as a result, was found not responsible for his actions within the legal framework in place at the time of the incident. During the hearing, the nurse stated that she had no personal grievances toward the patient beyond the assault itself.

Earlier reports mention a separate incident in a village in Buryatia where seven individuals under compulsory treatment attacked janitors, caused injuries, damaged doors, and escaped from a psychiatric dispensary. Those events are noted in relation to ongoing concerns about psychiatric care and security in treatment facilities across regions.
