A 17-year-old boy with a disability in Novosibirsk faced serious consequences after harming a Sphynx cat that had lived with his family for about two years. Volunteers stepped in, removed the animal, and the cat is now safe with new owners. The incident was reported by Sibkrai.ru.
Local animal rights advocates explained that the teenager is the youngest child in a large family. His mother is also raising her sister’s four adopted children. Volunteers noted that the family has previously had animals confiscated when similar abuse was reported.
According to Rosprirodnadzor, a public inspector, video footage showed the cat being fed sausage wrapped in cellophane and subjected to abuse. Officials said they attempted to speak with the mother, who initially refused to acknowledge the harm and claimed the cat belonged to her. The inspector recalled that the mother then grew more cooperative after concerns about involvement from guardianship authorities were made known, and the cat was finally handed over to the volunteers.
After the handover, the cat was placed with new caretakers who arranged a medical checkup, vaccinations, and plans for neutering. These steps aim to ensure the animal’s ongoing welfare and prevent future abuse.
