Autopsy results on the eight-year-old boy, Mohammed Abdelsalam, indicate a non-accidental death likely caused by a blow to the head with a blunt object. The finding points away from natural causes and suggests external force as a contributing factor in the tragedy.
Sources connected to the investigation disclosed to EFE that a third person participated in the incident and confirmed the child’s death. The information challenges any notion that the incident was purely accidental and aligns with the ongoing inquiry’s focus on possible involvement by additional individuals.
The Investigation Court handling the case has kept the case summary confidential, which explains why further details have not been released publicly.
Relatives conveyed to investigators that the death this Tuesday appeared intentional rather than a mishap, a view echoed by the boy’s father, Abdelmalik Abdeselam, and other family members who spoke about the loss.
Police investigators found the boy’s body in the early hours of Tuesday near a red jacket, partially undressed from the waist down, in bushes close to the private residence in the Loma Colmenar neighborhood. The scene raised questions about what happened during the night and early morning hours before the discovery.
At the time of the disappearance, the father had searched the area late Sunday afternoon, but the lack of light impeded the initial search. He continued looking after 7:00 pm on Sunday, but the child had not returned home, prompting concern and a formal report of disappearance shortly after midnight.
With limited information, the family turned to authorities at the High Security Directorate to file the complaint around 1:00 am, seeking any official help in locating the child as quickly as possible.
Neighbors confirmed to investigators that a man had been seen prowling the neighborhood and entering and exiting from a vehicle left nearby. The police gathered statements from these witnesses and collected samples from the vehicle while also documenting the surrounding area, including the University Hospital located near the crime scene. These actions were part of a broad effort to reconstruct events and identify potential leads.
The youth had left home on Sunday to play futsal with friends at a sports center located roughly a hundred meters from his family home, a routine that made his sudden absence all the more perplexing to those who knew him.
Mohammed Abdeselam was the youngest of four siblings, with two older brothers aged 18 and 21 and a sister aged 14. He was enrolled in the third grade at Severo Ochoa School, which today displayed a black crepe and the Spanish flag in mourning for the child’s loss.
The funeral for the little boy is scheduled to take place at the Sidi Embarek Muslim cemetery later today.
