A foreign national received a nine year prison term after being convicted of financing the Islamic State, a group banned in Russia, according to statements from the Moscow press service of the FSB reported in Moscow and the Moscow region.

The court concluded that the individual collected funds to support ISIS using the Telegram messenger app. Money was moved through debit cards and the QIWI Wallet system as part of this activity, which prosecutors described as providing material support to a terrorist organization.

Under the ruling of the Second Western District Military Court, DB Saidov was found guilty of a crime described in paragraph 1.1 of article 205.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. He was ordered to serve a total term of nine years, with the first two years served in a standard prison setting and the subsequent seven years in a strict regime penal colony. The ministry confirmed that the decision has entered into force, making the sentence enforceable.

Earlier reports mentioned a 22-year-old Tajikistani citizen residing in Kazan who faced charges of extortion connected to aiding terrorist activities through ISIS. The claims indicated that funds were transferred to the group on two occasions, amounts of 350 rubles and later 200 rubles, in connection with the alleged financial support channel described in the case records.

Additionally, the case involved a student from Barnaul who has now received a nine year sentence linked to the financing of ISIS activities. The proceedings illustrate how financial support for militant organizations can be traced through digital channels and financial services, prompting authorities to pursue prosecutions under relevant national anti-terrorism legislation. The combined decisions reflect Russia’s ongoing emphasis on disrupting financial networks that sustain extremist operations and the judiciary’s role in enforcing penalties against individuals implicated in such activities.
