In response, city authorities have advised masking in all indoor public places. This includes retail outlets, workplaces, building lobbies, elevators, and other shared spaces where people come into close contact with others.
Public transit, including the subway system, continues to require masks for all riders, reinforcing the city’s precautionary approach while the situation evolves.
Officials also announced a distribution program aimed at equipping households with more protective supplies. The city plans to distribute 16.5 million home test kits and one million quality masks to residents in the coming weeks.
