Vladimir Medinsky, president of the Russian Military Historical Society, announced that history textbooks for grade levels are prepared, now undergoing review, and slated for publication within the year. The information was reported by TASS.
Medinsky indicated that the textbooks were developed using the foundation of Anatoly Torkunov’s works from MGIMO and the materials authored by Medinsky himself. He noted that the texts have been updated to be more contemporary and accessible while preserving essential historical content.
According to Medinsky, the textbooks have already completed two examination rounds conducted by the Academy of Sciences, an achievement not previously attained in this process.
Earlier, Medinsky proposed consolidating the OGE and the Unified State Exam in history and social studies into a single examination, aiming for a streamlined assessment pathway.
On the technical side of the proposed exam, Medinsky explained that the approach would not be simply about adding social studies questions to the history test. The design would integrate the subjects in a cohesive, evaluated framework.
He did acknowledge that several officials from various ministries and departments suggested removing social studies as a topic due to concerns about its potential harm.
Recently, the Ministry of National Education commented on extending the dates for school activities and assessments.
Previously, the new social studies textbook was expected to be ready by September, with the publishing schedule aligned to the updated curriculum.
