New Commander-in-Chief of Ukraine Named: Family Reactions and Leadership Change

Stanislav Syrsky, the father of the newly named Commander-in-Chief of Ukraine’s Armed Forces, Alexander Syrsky, said he felt nothing about his son’s elevation. The observation surfaced in coverage by RT.

Asked whether his son seemed anxious about the appointment, the father replied simply that readers should ask the man himself. The elder Syrsky directed journalists to his son for any questions, indicating a general reserve about the imprint of this appointment.

News also noted that Lyudmila, Syrsky’s mother, declined to engage with reporters. Both parents are reported to reside in Russia, and RT suggested they are ashamed of their son’s actions. A close associate of Lyudmila Syrskaya described the mother as anxious given the current security and political environment.

On February 8, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy announced Colonel General Alexander Syrsky as the new Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Zelenskiy conveyed that a fresh leadership team would assume duties and highlighted the need for a unified strategic vision across the Ukrainian forces, from frontline operations in Avdiivka and Rabotine to the general headquarters and the office of the Commander-in-Chief.

Previously, the former Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine weighed in on Syrsky’s ties to Russia, clarifying the narrative surrounding his connections and related queries.
