A man in Palma grew increasingly worn down by the nonstop barking of his neighbor’s dog. Despite repeated requests to quiet the animal and curb the disturbance, those pleas were ignored. After another confrontation about the animal’s behavior, the dog owner, a 29-year-old man, reacted with hostility. He hurled insults, made threats of violence, and at one point grabbed an 18-centimeter knife and launched it toward the neighbor. Local police detained the dog owner on suspicion of making death threats, and the knife was seized as part of the investigation. The case was later handed to the national police for continued inquiries (Palma Local Police report).
A chronology of the incident places it on a Tuesday, March 19, in the Verge de Lluc neighborhood of Palma. A long-running quarrel between the resident and the neighbor had escalated from mild friction to a more serious clash, driven in large part by the dog’s persistent barking and the neighbor’s persistent insistence that the noise stop.
The dog’s incessant barking caused significant annoyance. Rather than finding a path to resolution, the disagreement grew more personal and acrimonious, especially since there was little effort from the owner to quiet the animal.
On the day in question, the aggrieved neighbor took a hands-on approach by repeatedly knocking on the door in the hope of ending the nightmare of constant barking. When there was no answer, the neighbor did not back down but instead watched the dispute move to the shared balcony, making the tension visible to the entire building and to passersby on the street below.
With the two dwellings facing each other on adjacent balconies, the gap between them was small. The dog owner eventually spoke, but his reply was rough and offensive. He directed insults at the neighbor and, at one point, uttered death threats and grabbed an 18-centimeter knife, hurling it toward the other resident.
A patrol from the Palma Local Police arrived shortly after, and after listening to both sides, detained the dog owner on suspicion of threats and confiscated the weapon. The case was later transferred to the National Police for the continuation of the investigation (Palma Local Police report).
