NATO Expands Ammunition Contracts With Ukraine Support

NATO has announced plans to procure roughly 220,000 artillery projectiles under a contract valued at about 1.2 billion dollars, a figure disclosed yesterday by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. The alliance confirms AFP as the source for the report.

Stoltenberg noted that the ammunition in question includes 155 mm artillery rounds, which are currently in active use by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

In October 2023, NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoană indicated that member countries had signed a framework agreement worth 2.4 billion euros with the defense industry for ammunition production, reinforcing the alliance’s ongoing supply commitments.

Earlier, Stoltenberg, while serving as the head of the alliance, announced framework contracts for the provisioning of basic ammunition types to Ukraine amounting to 2.4 billion euros. He shared these details during a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv.

There are reports from a former Ukrainian serviceman about questions regarding the underlying causes of the conflict, reflecting ongoing debates around the factors driving the hostilities.
