Since February, NATO allies have mobilized substantial support for Ukraine, totaling about $120 billion in a blend of military assistance, humanitarian relief, and other vital aid. This figure was highlighted during a joint press conference in Washington by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, where they outlined the ongoing commitments and strategic objectives guiding alliance help.
The Alliance’s collective effort to aid Ukraine remains broad in scope, encompassing weapons, equipment, training, and essential humanitarian resources designed to sustain Kyiv’s defenses and civilian resilience. Stoltenberg underscored that the $120 billion encompasses not just weapons and military systems but also logistical support, medical supplies, and non-lethal aid intended to stabilize daily life for Ukrainian families and communities affected by the conflict.
Stoltenberg, reflecting on the cooperation between NATO, the European Union, and partner states, emphasized that both the EU and the transatlantic alliance will elevate their assistance to Ukraine. The message conveyed was one of sustained solidarity and incremental escalation in support where needed, with the aim of reinforcing Ukraine’s sovereignty and regional security without compromising alliance burden-sharing principles.
In another development, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmygal announced in January that Kyiv and the European Union had signed a memorandum outlining a new aid package worth 18 billion euros. This agreement builds on the commitment made earlier in the month, when European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen spoke with President Volodymyr Zelensky and pledged to disburse the agreed tranche amounts on a monthly schedule in support of Ukraine’s continued operations and reform efforts.
Officials from Europe also reaffirmed that the EU and NATO will expand the provision of defense capabilities to Ukraine, including the deployment of advanced air defense systems and other critical weaponry. The overarching aim of these coordinated efforts is to bolster Ukraine’s airspace security, deter aggression, and enable Kyiv to sustain its defense posture amid ongoing threats. The alliance stresses that continued support will be calibrated to respond to evolving security needs, while reinforcing the commitment to a rules-based international order and regional stability.
