The National Police report the arrest of a 24-year-old man on charges related to the distribution and possession of thousands of files involving child sexual abuse. The suspect resides on a farm in Cuenca with his mother and other relatives, where authorities conducted a search at the start of December.
During the search of the residence, police found large quantities of child pornography on devices used by the detainee. They also uncovered emails and phone numbers used to verify information connected to the case, as stated by the Police Department in a release issued on Tuesday.
The investigation began after a pornographic video involving a minor appeared online. The person depicted was not listed in international databases, and initial suspicions about an assault linked to the distribution of the material were later dismissed. Investigators followed leads to the farm in Cuenca, where the suspect lived with his mother and other relatives, culminating in his identification as the individual responsible for distributing the video.
Officials clarified that the video in question was obtained through an electronic messaging platform and that the detainee did not participate in its production.
The case also shows that the suspect relied on cloud storage to store the illegal material. This practice allowed access from multiple devices and added a layer of difficulty for anyone attempting to locate the contents on the detainee’s devices.
The National Police emphasize the seriousness of sharing or recording sexual images and videos involving minors. They remind the public that such actions constitute criminal offenses and carry severe penalties under applicable law.
Officials urge anyone who encounters material of this nature to report it using appropriate channels dedicated to safeguarding minors. In all cases, legitimate authorities undertake careful investigations to identify the sources and prevent further distribution of such material.
