The National Police are investigating an alleged rape that reportedly occurred in Zaragoza last March. The case centers on an incident involving a sex worker along a central thoroughfare in the Aragonese capital. Authorities say the investigation has progressed to the point where the accused was located, arrested, and brought before a court, after which he was released on probation pending ongoing inquiries.

To the extent confirmed by EL PERIÓDICO DE ARAGÓN, the events unfolded on a street known as Count Aranda. The victim, described as a working prostitute at the time, encountered the person who would later be accused of the assault and recounted that her stated intention was to hire his services. At that moment, nothing indicated that a violent outcome would follow.

According to the complainant, a young man of African descent living in Zaragoza approached her while she stood on the street. He offered to engage in a sexual encounter on Conde Aranda street, at the moment they met.

Initially, the victim believed another customer might be present, but it became clear that this was not the case. Despite the woman’s repeated resistance and explicit requests to stop, she says she was sexually assaulted in a doorway on the same street. The accused reportedly told officers that the encounter involved a condom, but as soon as the aggressor understood the woman’s intention to refuse, he allegedly ignored her pleas and persisted, continuing the sexual act despite clear signs of her rejection.

In that moment, on that fateful March day, the assailant fled after leaving the victim lying on the ground near the doorway where the assault took place, making it difficult for her to rise, summon help, or provide identifying details.

Escape

Once the survivor managed to stand and seek assistance, the perpetrator had already disappeared from the scene. He did not leave behind enough clues to locate him at that time.

The following Friday, a turn of luck or fate brought a confrontation. While walking along the street, the victim reportedly spotted the assailant crossing the road and immediately notified local police. Officers were able to verify her identification and subsequently arrest the man.

The alleged rape victim was turned over to the Family and Women’s Unit of the National Police (UFAM) as the investigation progressed. After the arrest, she provided testimony in court the following day, and the accused was granted parole during the ongoing police inquiry. The case remains under formal review as authorities continue to gather evidence and assess the events that transpired that day.
