Arrests were carried out at dawn on Wednesday by National Police agents in Ibiza, where two men of Italian origin, aged 36 and 30, were detained following a disturbance that left a bar worker and the bar owner injured. The police noted in a statement that the alleged offenses included bodily harm and threats against a woman who witnessed the incident. The event unfolded around 1:15 a.m. after officers on duty responded to a security alert near a busy plaza adjacent to a park area, where they encountered the suspected perpetrators on the street.
According to the officers, a patron from a nearby bar had requested assistance after witnessing two individuals threaten a waiter with glass bottles. The same source described how the confrontation escalated when one of the suspects attacked the bar owner who had come to defend his employee. The scene quickly grew chaotic as patrons and staff attempted to separate the parties and protect those who were at risk.
Investigators say the confrontation originated from an argument that started online via a social network and involved one of the currently detained men and the bar staff. After a tense exchange, one of the suspects is said to have issued death threats directed at the women who witnessed the altercation, as reported by the National Police.
Minutes later, the second suspect arrived at the bar in another man’s company, and both carried glass bottles. They reportedly pursued the individuals present, resulting in further intimidation followed by physical aggression. The bar’s owner was severely assaulted during the skirmish, suffering a bleeding ear wound among other injuries. The victimized staff member and witnesses were left shaken by the violent episode.
The wounded parties received medical attention at the scene and were later transported to a hospital for treatment. The local hospital provided updates on the injuries, confirming treatment for the injuries anding several lacerations and head trauma. Police officers detained the second man at a police station several hours after the incident on charges of bodily harm and making threats against others. Both individuals have been placed in custody as the investigation proceeds in the capable hands of judicial authorities.
