National Police: 14-year-old in Getafe died after voluntary cocaine use; investigation ongoing

The National Police investigation into the death of a 14-year-old boy in Getafe (Madrid) points to voluntary cocaine use by the minor, with authorities not finding evidence that someone supplied the drug without his knowledge.

The Getafe Judicial Police officers are focusing, among other lines of inquiry, on identifying the person who sold the illicit substances to the group of youths, according to police sources cited by EFE.

They are also continuing interviews with the victim’s family and close friends and reviewing security footage from the area where the cocaine was allegedly used and where the minor died, near the Los Espartales metro station.

Awaiting the autopsy results and the toxicology report, which will reveal details about the substance taken and the quantities involved, investigators believe cocaine was the drug possessed by the group of youths.

Based on the testimonies collected, investigators consider the main hypothesis that the deceased consumed the drugs voluntarily.

There is not a single indication supporting the initial report that someone supplied drugs to him without his consent.

Therefore, pending any new evidence that could contradict this, authorities currently rule out the possibility of homicide.

Around eleven o’clock Friday night, the 14-year-old boy, a Spanish national, was with a group of friends near the Los Espartales metro stop when he lost consciousness.

The young person entered cardiac arrest, and emergency responders from Summa 112, despite performing resuscitation efforts, could only confirm his death.
